Pianist
Jem is a versatile and capable pianist. With a good ear, Jem was drawn to the piano as a child and spend many hours improvising, well before starting any formal piano lessons. This early creativity on the instrument has served him will, not only as a composer, but also as an accompanist where knowledge of harmony and counterpoint allows him to learn unfamiliar music quickly. Jem is also a good sight-reader.

Conductor
From the beginning of his musical journey, Jem has had a keen interest in conducting. Since the earliest days of observing his choirmasters, Jem has set about learning as much as he can about this mysterious art form. Jem is now the Conducting Scholar of the Choir of Trinity College, Melbourne, where he frequently deputises for the Director of Music, Christopher Watson, conducting choral services in the chapel. He is also the Director of The Trinity Singers, a vocal ensemble affiliated with the college choir, made up of current or past Trinity choristers.

Jem is a commissioned composer. He found his love of creating music as a child, improvising at the piano when he should have been practicing! With a focus on vocal and choral music, Jem's music is melodically generous, harmonically rich and always written to be performable.

Singer
Jem has extensive experience as a choral and consort singer. As a child, he attained the rank of Leader in the Australian Boys’ Choir and subsequently become a tutor there, teaching singing technique and musicianship skills. Jem currently sings with the Choir of Trinity College, the University of Melbourne.
