Jem's conducting experience and education is broad. At the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Jem studied under Dr. David Kram. Since school, he has gained experience in the theatre, including conducting his own musical, Mageia: a Musical Fable. For this, he directed soloists, the chorus and a 10-piece band from the piano. His operatic experience includes conducting Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief and Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel at the Melbourne Conservatorium. In 2024, Jem was the Conducting Scholar of the Choir of Trinity College, Melbourne where he assisted Christopher Watson in leading services and concerts. From August 2023 to December 2024, Jem ran and conducted The Trinity Singers, a chamber vocal ensemble affiliated with Trinity College. While in the UK, Jem stepped in to conduct Durham University Palatinate Orchestra as well as the Choir of Hatfield College, Durham. Jem has participated in numerous conducting workshops, masterclasses and programmes including with the Australian Bands and Orchestra Director’s Association (ABODA) under Ingrid Martin, Symphony Services International under Christopher Seaman, and the National Youth Choir of Australia under Warren Trevelyan-Jones. Jem is also an inspiring and dynamic choir trainer and has worked with choristers young and old, experienced and inexperienced.
